Classification and Application of Papermaking Chemicals
1. Pulping Chemicals
Divided by use: cooking chemicals, bleaching chemicals, beating chemicals, waste paper deinking chemicals, etc.
(1) Cooking chemicals: NaOH, Na₂CO₃, Na₂S, (NH₄)₂SO₃, MgHSO₃ and additives.
(2) Bleaching chemicals: chlorine, caustic soda, hydrogen peroxide, hypochlorite, chlorine dioxide, oxygen, ozone, etc.
(3) Beating chemicals: Na₂SO₃, H₂O₂, etc.
(4) Waste paper deinking agents: mixed surfactants (cationic/anionic/non-ionic) and auxiliaries.
2. Papermaking Chemicals
Main types: fillers, sizing agents, strength agents, retention aids, preservatives, brighteners, etc.
(1) Fillers: talc, calcium carbonate, kaolin, titanium dioxide, organic fillers.
(2) Sizing agents: rosin-based sizes, AKD, ASA, petroleum resin, animal glue.
(3) Dry strength agents: polyacrylamide, oxidized starch, cationic starch, CMC.
(4) Wet strength agents: melamine-formaldehyde resin, PAE, PPE, urea-formaldehyde resin.
(5) Retention/drainage aids: polyacrylamide, etc.
(6) Preservatives: organic sulfur, organic halides, quaternary ammonium salts.
(7) Brighteners: fluorescent brighteners, etc.
3. Coated Paper Chemicals
Divided into pigment/solvent coating; main types: pigments, adhesives, additives.
(1) Pigments: white (inorganic/organic) and colored pigments (kaolin, talc, titanium dioxide, plastic pigments).
(2) Adhesives: natural (protein/starch/cellulose) and synthetic (PVA, styrene-butadiene latex, carboxylated styrene-butadiene latex).
(3) Additives: dispersants, water repellents, defoamers, softeners, preservatives, thinning agents.
4. Other Chemicals
Flocculants, precipitants, defoamers, dyes, lubricants, flame retardants, antistatic agents, etc.
